The HathiTrust Digital Library brings together the immense collections of research libraries (in the US) in digital form, preserving them securely to be accessed and used today, and in future generations.  Holdings include out of copyright materials covering all subject areas.

Online archive of books, moving images (films), audio and live music. “The Internet Archive, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, and the general public.”

The latest release of Literature Online sees the addition of 57 new or revised biographies, including biographies for Rachel Blau DuPlessis, Frank Kermode, Ted Olson, Sterling Plumpp, Mario Puzo, Sapphire, Susan Sontag and Alice Walker.
